One Hour a Week Can Change a Child's Future
Children in foster care face challenges most of us can hardly imagine. Frequent moves, disrupted schooling, and uncertainty at home often leave them struggling to keep up in the classroom. Many fall behind in reading and math through no fault of their own.
That's where you can make a difference.
The WHIT Program pairs caring volunteers with children in foster care who need academic support and encouragement. As a tutor, you become more than a homework helper—you become a trusted mentor, a positive role model, and a consistent presence in a child's life.
You do not need to be a teacher. You simply need a willingness to help a child succeed.
Every tutoring session helps build confidence, strengthen academic skills, and remind a child that someone believes in them. The impact of that relationship can last far beyond a report card.
The WHIT Program provides training, resources, and ongoing support to help you succeed. All volunteers complete a background check, fingerprint screening, and tutor training before being matched with a student.
Why Volunteer?
- Help a child improve in reading and math
- Build confidence and self-esteem
- Provide consistency and encouragement
- Make a lasting impact in your community
- Change a life while enriching your own
Thousands of children in foster care across Texas need someone who will invest in their future. The WHIT Program exists because volunteers are willing to step forward and make a difference. The organization currently serves foster children throughout Texas through free tutoring and educational support.
Be the Reason a Child Believes They Can Succeed
A child may forget a worksheet or a test score, but they will never forget the person who showed up week after week, encouraged them when they struggled, and celebrated their victories.
Become a WHIT tutor today and help a child discover what is possible.
Every child deserves someone in their corner.
